City officials are advising Brooklyn homeowners to be on the lookout for a group of con artists who masquerade as Department of Environmental Protection workers in an attempt to scam residents.

According to officials, the imposters make their way into people?s homes by saying they have to examine pipes and meters. Then, they collect ?payments? for outstanding water bills.

The warning comes just months after a lone DEP imposter stole money from several elderly women in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Police say the bandit was canvassing the neighborhood and demanding money from homeowners by threatening to shut off their water. The suspect was never caught.
