The city has lifted its open fire ban after several days of consistent rainfall.
The ban, which was enacted in November following a series of brush fires, forced the cancellation of the annual New Year's Eve fireworks display in Prospect Park.
A spokesperson for the Prospect Park Alliance said the organization is finalizing plans for this year’s celebration but did not confirm whether the fireworks tradition will return.
During the ban, organizers pivoted to a drone light show as an alternative.
Residents expressed mixed feelings about the ban and its impact on the celebration.
"I understand they need to take precautions, but I hope the fireworks return," one resident said.
Recent rainfall has alleviated fire concerns, allowing the city to lift restrictions on open flames, including grilling and fireworks.
It remains unclear if lifting the ban will restore the New Year’s Eve fireworks tradition.
