New York City officials are ramping up safety measures as summer approaches - especially in Brooklyn, where beaches and boardwalks will see an increased presence of police and emergency responders.

As part of the city’s 2025 Summer Safety Plan, the NYPD, FDNY and other agencies will deploy more officers and advanced technology, including drones, to monitor the water and improve emergency response times.

The initiative also includes a crackdown on illegal ATVs, so-called “ghost cars” with obscured plates and the use of illegal fireworks, which pose both safety and fire hazard concerns.

Residents and workers, like Maria, an ice cream vendor at the beach, welcome the move.

“Any initiative to make Brooklyn safer is a great thing, for the children, the tourists, and adults," she said.

City officials are also urging the public to do their part by reporting suspicious activity. As they put it: “If you see something, say something.”

The plan will remain in effect throughout the summer season.
