A civil rights lawyer and his wife were arrested Thursday night and claim they were assaulted by police while trying to help a man.
Michael Warren and his wife Evelyn, both civil rights attorneys, say they came upon a man on the street that had already been arrested. They claim police were assaulting him.
Michael Warren says he asked police to stop, at which point they ordered him into their vehicle.
Warren says he and his wife were then assaulted by police and arrested. According to Warren, there were witnesses to the incident. Warren claims if an incident of police brutality could happen in front of a crowd, anyone could become a victim.
The Warren couple claim the officers involved are with the 77th Precinct. A police spokesman claims the two lawyers were charged because they interfered with the arrest of a suspect.
