The National Weather Service has continued a rip current statement through at least Saturday evening, although New York City beaches are closed to swimming.
Warm and breezy blend heading into the weekend
The workweek wraps up on a warm and sunny note, as the coastal storm remains far enough offshore.
Highs once again reached the 80s Friday, but the 80s will be replaced with highs in the 70s this weekend.
Cooler temperatures will be paired with a light northerly breeze, especially on Saturday with some 20 to 30 mph gusts are possible, closer to the water.
It will also get colder overnight and Sunday morning will feel like fall with temperatures in the upper-50s to near 60.
Fall officially begins at 8:43 a.m. Sunday, with plenty of sun and chilly temperatures.
The cooler trend continues into the first full day of fall Monday as highs will be stuck in the 60s.
Eventually there is a slight warmup midweek next week with the next potential for showers Wednesday and/or Thursday.
It is too soon to know if the rain will reach the borough, but if it does, it will end the growing rain-free streak.
It is 13 days as of Friday, the longest streak without a single raindrop since September 2020, nearly four years ago.
