A Bronx community is honoring an officer from the Bronx who recently died by continuing his holiday tradition of collecting toys for children in need.
Anthony Digiovanna was killed when he had a heart attack and crashed his squad car on the Cross Bronx Expressway last month. He had been a community affairs officer in the 48th Precinct for nearly 17 years.
Several Belmont businesses, including Gino's Pastry Shop, have stepped in to continue the toy drive Digiovanna helped put together.
The donations will be handed out on Christmas Eve as part of the Chaplain Worker Federation's 10th annual toy drive, which is dedicated to Digiovanna this year.
