An early morning shooting in Crown Heights injured a 27-year-old man, according to authorities, leaving outspoken community activists angry over growing violence.
"I want to say this to the mayor, don't come to me with no statistics," says Tony Herbert, a community activist. "Come to me to say that you want to offer up your condolences to this community, because guns are going off, and people are getting shot."
Area residents say the victim is well-known and liked. He was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, police say.
They also say the shooting peppered the Albany Houses with stray bullets.
The attack comes just days after Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYPD's top brass announced a drop in crime across the city in 2015. Critics voiced anger about those announcements, which included a rise in major crimes including murders, rapes and robberies.
