Con Edison is offering up some helpful heating tips for residents as temperatures begin to dip:
- Make sure all windows are sealed tight and block openings around door frames to keep out the draft.

- Think twice before using a portable space heater, as they can raise an electric bill by $60 a month.

- Ceiling fans can be used on the lowest setting during cold months to circulate heat that rises.

- Keep heat around 68 degrees during the day and 60 degrees at night.
The utility says older people who have medical conditions may need to have their homes warmer and urge them to check with a doctor for the proper setting.
Many Brooklyn residents told News 12 Brooklyn that they have already turned on the heat inside their homes.
