For the first time in more than two decades, Congress has approved funding for gun violence research.
The $25 million allocated for the research is included in the massive $1.4 trillion federal spending bill passed by the House.
Half of the money would go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the other half would go to the National Institutes of Health.
The funding comes as the nation continues to grapple with frequent mass shootings.
