Construction worker hospitalized following roof collapse at school

A construction worker is in the hospital after part of a Bensonhurst school's roof collapsed this morning.

A construction worker is in the hospital after part of a Bensonhurst school's roof collapsed this morning.
Emergency responders tell News 12 the incident happened just before 9 a.m. at the Edward B. Shallow School on 16th Avenue.
News 12 is told the workers were doing routine maintenance on the building when a section of the roof collapsed.
One man using heavy equipment fell through the roof onto the top floor.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and tell News 12 the worker is expected to be OK.
In a statement, the Department of Education said, “During routine maintenance on the building while no students or staff were inside, a section of the roof collapsed. FDNY immediately responded, and one worker is being treated for minor injuries.”
The Department of Buildings is now on-site evaluating the structure.
