One city council member is looking to declare war on the city's pigeon population.
City Councilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) plans to introduce legislation to the council that seeks to end what Felder calls pigeons' "free reign over the city."
The legislation includes a number of steps to decrease the bird's population such as banning the feeding of pigeons in the city. Felder is also pushing to cut pigeon reproduction by distributing bird birth control and replacing real eggs with dummy eggs.
The legislation would utilize live and robotic hawks as well. Robotic hawks would be placed in strategic locations to scare pigeons away from nesting. The live hawks would be dispersed in an effort to increase the population of pigeon predators.
