A University Heights couple says the garden they created to honor the victims of 9/11 was destroyed without warning by the Parks Department.

Debbie Mann started the Little Hope Garden on West 190th Street and Aqueduct Avenue 11 years ago as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the terror attacks.

Just a few weeks ago, Mann and her husband Tony looked out their window to see the garden being torn down. The couple says they knew the land was publicly owned, but took it upon themselves to beautify the plot after it became a neighborhood eyesore.

The Manns say the garden should be the last thing destroyed in University Heights. Residents agree with the couple, saying the Parks Department should focus on fixing broken railings and fences instead.
