The massive sinkhole on 79th Street in Bay Ridge is gone. The hole was 20-feet deep and almost stretched across the entire width of 79th Street when it fell through last Wednesday. The Department of Environmental Protection said the hole opened up because of a defect in the sewer pipe that ran beneath the street. Constructions workers promised residents last week that they would work through the weekend to have the hole fixed, and they did just that. Construction is still taking place on a gas line, but residents are now able to drive on the street again.Crews get to the bottom of Bay Ridge sinkhole
