Students and parents say they are disappointed by the New York City Department of Education's current plan to combat in-school bullying.
The New York Civil Liberties Union joined other community groups in surveying 1,100 public school students and educators to find that only 20 percent of them had attended diversity training. In addition, the poll concludes that only one in four students knew how to report harassment. The DOE claims a two-day diversity training seminar was held for 1,800 educators this year.
Critics say they hope the DOE will implement more training, more documentation of harassment incidents and more protection for students who fall victim to bullying.
