Jews in Crown Heights protested last night against an Orthodox ritual traditionally held on the eve of Yom Kippur. Some Orthodox and Hasidic Jews completed their ritual of sacrificing live chickens on Monday. While some held the birds and waved them over their heads, others protested the ritual that they decry as cruel and inhumane. Those who participated in the ritual say each bird is donated to a family in need.
