Workers are stepping up the pace to set sail on a new multimillion dollar terminal at Pier 12 in Red Hook.
The pier, which was once an industrial port, will host up to 3,000 passengers at a time from Princess and Cunard cruise lines. Economic development officials say creating a port in Brooklyn not only raises the profile of the borough but also brings more than 300 jobs to the area. Paul Januszewski, of the NYC Economic Development Corp., says jobs and patronage at local hotels will have a huge economic impact on Brooklyn.
The first ship will cruise into the port on April 15, with 38 additional ships expected to dock at the port by the end of the year.
