Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Monday new plans for the Bedford Armory, which will honor his former aide who was killed during J'ouvert three years ago.

The Bedford Armory will soon be known as the Carey Gabay Community Center. The state will invest up to $15 million into the center.

The center will be 60,000 square-feet and will provide a variety of resources for the community including, social services, education, athletics, after-school activities, youth membership and health care.

Gabay was an aide to Cuomo who was shot by a stray bullet during the J'ouvert festivities in Brooklyn. The governor says providing the community with a center in his honor will help continue his legacy.

Cuomo also announced five winners of the Carey Gabay Scholarship program, which covers the cost of tuition, room and board, class fees and books for the winners.

The governor's office says the winners epitomize Gabay's commitment to social justice.
