The Bronx district attorney stated today that his office has started to review the social services and education law in regard to the recent sexual abuse allegations at Horace Mann High School.
Robert Johnson said in a letter to New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn that he began to review the law to see if Horace Mann was legally required to disclose the allegations to parents. Johnson also stated it may require legislative action.
The allegations surfaced after a former student wrote an expose in the New York Times Magazine stating that he and several other former students were molested by at least three now-deceased teachers.
Johnson also set up a hot line today, encouraging anyone with information about the inappropriate behavior to come forward. The hot line number is 718-838-7382.
