Thursday marks the six-year anniversary of a massive fire that tore through an apartment building in the Bronx, taking the lives of a dozen people.
2363 Prospect Ave. is still empty after that deadly fire. Fire marshals say that the fire was caused by a 3-year-old boy playing with burners on a stove. That fire quickly made its way through the five-story building and the smoke filled the stairwells.
The FDNY commissioner at the time, Daniel Nigro, says that the fire moved upwards so fast that people had little time to react and struggled to get out of the building.
The death toll reached 12 people, and it became the deadliest fire in New York City in 30 years that day.
