As the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine gets closer to FDA approval, the demand for dry ice is increasing from pharmacies and hospitals looking to store it.
William D'Ariano and his son have been in the ice business for over 40 years. The family-owned business, Chilly Willy, says it's getting calls from pharmacies, hospitals and state-related agencies asking questions from how to properly store dry ice to distribution.
Ice businesses say they're preparing for the demand in service with Moderna now being the second pharmaceutical company to release a COVID-19 vaccine.
Once approved by the FDA, Pfizer says it expects to produce up to 50 million vaccine doses globally in 2020. Ice businesses says they are ready to do their part in the medical breakthrough.
