Thousands
of New Yorkers are expected to take to the streets this weekend to protest the
potential overturn of Roe v. Wade in the Supreme Court.
One
planned protest will start Saturday outside the Brooklyn Bridge and make
its way to Foley Square.
Planned
Parenthood staffers will be joining the droves of protesters expected to
be out, and they will be wearing green to stand in solidarity with women in
Argentina who inspired the ‘green wave’ that helped decriminalize abortion in
their country.
While
New York has some of the strongest abortion access laws in place, the protest
is about something much bigger.
“We
don’t plan to be losing our right to abortion care here in NY,” said Nicole
Margiasso, director of community organizing for Planned Parenthood. “We are not
going to stop fighting for everyone in the country and across the world who
deserves a right to choose what is best for their body and their own reproductive
health care.”
