The city is pulling trash bins off some Brooklyn streets in the hope that it will actually help keep them cleaner.
According to the Department of Sanitation, many residents are misusing their corner litter baskets and illegally dumping household garbage in them, despite having pick-up at their homes twice a week.
Crews say that garbage often overflows and piles up as a result, but without the bins, people may be forced to keep the trash off the streets entirely.
Anyone caught illegally dumping household waste into the street garbage cans could face up to a $100 fine.
While some agree that the removal of the bins might help, others say it will only make things worse. Some say the issue has nothing to do with the city, but with the people in the area.
