A developer is seeking to convert a landmark Park Slope movie theater into condominiums.
The Pavilion Theater in Prospect Park West has been a staple of Park Slope for years.
Developer Hidrock Realty recently filed plans to redesign the entire building, although it says that much of the exterior will remain the same. The movie theater and retail space next door will be completely redone, with 24 condo units added.
Hidrock says that both the theater and retail space were deteriorating and in need of work. The theater will be given a more-modern look, but will become smaller in size.
According to Hidrock, the condos would be an asset to the neighborhood; however, some residents have mixed feelings on the development.
One resident said that a condo complex has no business being in Park Slope, while another resident said they do not mind the renovation as long as the theater remains intact.
Once the plans are approved, Hidrock hopes to begin construction at the end of the year.
