Parents preparing to enroll their kids in pre-kindergarten could soon have the same timetable, same deadline and same application to streamline the process.
Schools Chancellor Joel Klein is proposing a standardized approach in an effort to make the family-to-school transition friendlier.
Under the plan, every parent would receive the same application and directories to programs, including those run by community-based organizations, in March. Parents would have until the end of May to accept or decline acceptance offers.
Every child who turns 4 by the end of this year is eligible to enroll in pre-kindergarten. Klein expects the plan, if approved, to expand to kindergarten next year.
The Department of Education is holding citywide information sessions. The Bronx meeting will be held Feb. 12 at DeWitt Clinton High School from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
