New Yorkers dealing with double parking in their neighborhoods can now report it on a new platform launched by the city’s Department of Transportation.
Council Member Amanda Farias says the double-parking problem has become especially common in her district in the Bronx.
"Double parking, in folks’ brains, is a convenience. You think you're going to run in and out of a store, without taking in the fact that your five minutes in a store prevents a bus from going down to make it on time to their next stop,” said Farias.
To combat this growing problem, the DOT has launched a platform for residents to report incidents of double parking in loading zones, bike lanes and bus lanes.
Data collected from the DOT will help determine new potential sites for dedicated loading zones to help make streets less congested for everyone.
"The more data we can aggregate, the [more] comprehensive we can look at this, the better the flow of road traffic on our streets is going to be implemented here,” said Farias.
