Neighbors have long called for action to the crossing where a 3-year-old boy was fatally struck by a car last month.
They say because of the new plans, a similar incident between Bay 25th Street and Benson Avenue will never happen again.
Elected officials and residents say they have been fighting for years to do something about the intersection.
"I know this young boy just died here," said Catherine Steinberg of Bath Beach. "Another gentleman I think died over there and several years ago my daughter was hit by a car....It's unfortunate what happened to the two people. This light is long overdue."
The DOT tells News 12 they expect the traffic light to be installed by this fall.
