A new exit ramp to ease traffic heading to the Hunts Point Market and surrounding areas is open, easing Bronx River Avenue traffic.
Construction began in May on exit 50 from the Bruckner Expressway. Drivers can now use the ramp, whereas before, they were forced to get off and maneuver through street traffic on the often-congested Bronx River Avenue.
Community Board 2's district manager says the traffic is noticeably lighter and says he hasn't received any complaints so far.
The ramp is temporary and is part of a bigger plan by the New York State Department of Transportation. The DOT is working on a permanent solution that it expects to complete by 2012.
