An underpass in the Mount Eden section of the Bronx is looking a lot different after News 12 reported earlier this week about trash and litter piling up in the area
The Department of Sanitation cleaned up the spot at East 174th Street and Walton Avenue. One Bronx resident says the illegal dumping at this underpass has been going on for years.
Sidney Flores, a community member, says he has paid for warning signs to deter the culprits and has notified the city as well. He says even when DSNY trucks finally come around to clean up the area, it would be littered again within days.
DSNY told News 12 the area has been cleaned 16 times since August as part of their targeted Neighborhood Task Force. They want to warn New Yorkers that if you're caught dumping illegally, you can be fined starting from $4,000.
