The East Coast version of the well-known Sundance Film Festival is making its way to Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) will host the event in May. The weeklong festival will feature nearly 20 films as well as lectures, musical events and even a reunion for Sundance alumni. BAM President Karen Brooks says many of the filmmakers featured in Sundance are from Brooklyn. She says the vitality and diversity of the Brooklyn reflects the urban energy of NYC in the 21st Century.
The festival will run from May 11 to May 20. One actor expected to attend is Steve Buscemi, who lives in Brooklyn. Buscemi says he's happy to see more independent films and work coming from Brooklyn.
