After a successful pilot program, a Brooklyn-based company is expanding their electric moped service, giving New York another way to get around.
The e-moped service Revel deployed 1,000 new vehicles to parts of Brooklyn and Queens. Their pilot program last July brought more than 4,000 riders to the streets, many of whom started asking for the program to expand.
All a customer needs to do to sign up is download the app, submit proof of drivers license and pay a $19 fee. Riders must be 21 years or older.
After completing the registration, a person has access to electric mopeds that can be picked up or dropped off on the street. The mopeds have two seats and helmets in every trunk. The cost to start a ride is $1, plus 25 cents a minute after that.
Revel representatives say their goal is to keep expanding so they can provide the service to more users. The company is offering a 40% discount to users who use public assistance programs or live in NYCHA housing.
