A place designed to inspire creativity for children and adults opened to the public this weekend in the BAM Fisher space.
Teknopolis is named for the Greek word tekne, which means "art" or "craft." Polis which translates to "ideal city."
Visitors can use virtual or augmented reality to go underwater or through a hectic city. There are also stations for children and adults to create their own music.
BAM felt as an educational center for children, it seemed like a natural fit to have arts and technology.
"BAM is known for its presentation of performing artists who use creative tech, so we're trying to figure out how to do that for kids and it's really hard to find performers doing the same thing," says Steven McIntosh. "So we decided to present just the creative tech for our community to come in and play and imagine new futures for themselves."
Evening sessions were added this year due to more adults expressing interest in the event.
Teknopolis runs through March 11.
