A former FBI agent was charged Thursday by the Brooklyn district attorney in connection with a number of mob killings in the 1980s and '90s.
DA Charles Hynes says Lindley DeVecchio, 65, provided inside information to Greg Scarpa, a captain in the Colombo crime family, in exchange for money. Scarpa then allegedly ordered the killings of other mob figures. The DA says a suspected informant, a mobster looking to gain control of the Colombo family, a mob figure's daughter, and a Colombo soldier considered a problem were all targets.
DeVecchio, who headed the FBI's Colombo squad at one time, is charged with four counts of second-degree murder.
