Police are searching for suspects after an armed robbery at a gas station in the Town of Woodbury early Monday morning, an incident caught on surveillance video that shows a night clerk forced to the ground as masked men ransacked the store.
Police say the robbery happened around 1:50 a.m. Monday at the A Plus Sunoco on Route 32.
Surveillance video shows four masked men entering the store. One remains near the entrance while three others move behind the counter, where cash and merchandise are taken.
The night clerk is seen forced to his knees with his hands behind his head as the robbery unfolds. One suspect is seen taking the clerk's cellphone during the ordeal.
Store manager Love Singh told News 12 the suspects stole about $800 in cash and thousands of dollars' worth of tobacco products, including vapes.
“I’m very angry. This is the second time this has happened here,” Singh said. “I hope they can arrest these people. I lost money — cash, vapes, tobacco — everything.”
Police say one of the suspects had a knife and investigators are also looking into whether a firearm was involved. Authorities say the suspects fled south on Route 32.
Singh also said he believes the suspects may have scoped out the store earlier, telling News 12 surveillance video from the day before shows individuals without masks wearing similar clothing.
“I saw a New Jersey license plate,” Singh said. “They were in a golden van.”
Police say they are working several leads and are being assisted by state police, the FBI’s Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center. Authorities say there is no immediate threat to the community, but no arrests have been made.
This is the second robbery at the same gas station, according to police. The first happened in 2023.
