Some residents at NYCHA Throggs Neck housing have been dealing with hot water flooding their apartments for almost 24 hours. They say they're frustrated with NYCHA for not answering the call for help fast enough.
Residents at 560 Balcom Ave. say a water riser burst behind an apartment wall at 10 a.m. Sunday, causing water to spew from light fixtures and flood the building with hot water. The burst also caused the elevator to be shut down.
Leehra Brooks is one of the many residents at the Throggs Neck Houses who says NYCHA did not act fast enough.
When the FDNY arrived at 1 p.m., residents say they couldn’t help because the leak was behind a wall.
Residents say NCYHA did not arrive at the building until Monday, but the damage had already been done.
NYCHA responded to the incident saying, "NYCHA staff are currently on-site responding to a break in the hot water supply line at 560 Balcom Avenue and performing necessary repairs and clean-up. We are working with impacted residents to address immediate needs, including temporary relocation where necessary.”
