A new photo exhibit is offering a rare look into war at the abandoned Brooklyn Navy Yard Hospital.
The exhibit is located at the hospital site, which was active from the Civil War to World War II before closing in the mid-1970s.
German artist Bettina Witteveen says she hopes the exhibit inspires the people that visit to do more to make the world more peaceful.
Witteveen spent 20 years traveling the world, capturing the sites where American soldiers fought and died.
Upon leaving the exhibit, visitors are given a list of organizations they can contact or donate to that help refugees or those wounded by war.
The exhibit runs until Oct. 24.
