It was a day of celebration for the Food Bank for New York City as it unveiled portraits of the men and women who fight hunger in the five boroughs.
"Facing Hunger," the organization's new exhibit, will be on display throughout the warehouse as a reminder of those who are in need and those who are there to help.

"We want to make sure New Yorkers understand that we cannot accomplish this mission without all types of New Yorkers. Whether you are donating your time, your talent, your treasure, we need it all," says Margarette Purvis, CEO of Food Bank for NYC.

Along with unveiling the photos, it was a day of celebrating the organizations that donate, especially those that were crucial during the government shutdown

"The different players that help some food go from maybe about to be thrown away but it’s still really good and to come through this building and end up on a plate of a family that needs it very much," says Purvis.

The event also celebrated the single individual who many say is responsible for starting it all - Jack Fritts.

"He is much beloved, so we took this day to make sure he knows how much we all appreciate him," says Purvis.
