A group of families gathered in Brighton Beach Sunday to honor 18 Brooklyn residents who were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The annual ceremony at Seaside Park is meant to bring comfort to families who say they continue to mourn their loved ones all these years later.
The memorial is usually held directly after the World Trade Center ceremony in Manhattan on the anniversary of the attacks, but was held Sunday instead since Rosh Hashanah falls on the same day this year.
Nelly Braginsky tells News 12 that she has been coming to the service for more than a decade to honor her son, who was killed during the attack on the World Trade Center.
The names of the 18 victims are etched in a permanent memorial at the park.
The families also gather during the holidays for mutual support and hold annual soccer matches against community firefighters or police officers.
