The family of a 14-year-old boy killed in a hit-and-run last week is working with lawmakers to make the intersection where he was struck safer.
Mohammad Nyam Uddin was fatally struck at the intersection of East 7th Street and Caton Avenue last Thursday after a driver made a sharp left turn and drove off after hitting him. The suspected driver, 78-year-old Lynn Reynolds, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a serious injury or death.
City Councilman Brad Lander (D-Brooklyn) says he is working with the Department of Transportation to make the intersection safer. A community meeting about the issue will be held by the DOT in January.
Uddin's family is hoping to rename East 7th Street in his honor so they can remember his life.
