A family was displaced by a fire at their home early Sunday morning in the Highbridge section of the Bronx.
The FDNY responded to the fire at 1261 Nelson Ave. around 7 a.m.
A resident who lives in the two-family home told News 12 that she and her husband and their two children woke up in a panic when smoke filled the air in their home.
She says her family lives in the upstairs part of the home on the left and her nephew lives on the right. The owner and her sister live downstairs.
The resident says everyone got out of the house safely.
The Red Cross was on the scene helping the woman and her family find warm shoes and gloves, as they escaped the fire wearing only their coats, pajamas and slippers.
The FDNY is investigating the cause of the fire.
