Sunday marked a somber Father's Day for one family who is mourning the loss of their loved one.
Jeffery Middleton, 33, was fatally shot last weekend inside his Ford Fusion on Flatbush Avenue. His family says he had gone out to get some wood when the shooting happened.
Friends and relatives gathered in Flatbush Sunday to pray, holding candles and wearing special T-shirts they created in Middleton's memory. Family members say they hope their message can help put a stop to gun violence.
"I don't understand why there's all this senseless killing, you know?" said Rony Macean, the victim's cousin. "People, they don't even understand who they kill. He was a cousin, a big brother. Please put these guns down, man. It's not worth it at the end of the day. Everybody's losing out here."
Another man, age 26, was shot in the chin in the shooting that claimed Middleton's life. That victim took himself to Methodist Hospital, where he was expected to be OK.
No arrests have been made in the case.
