Firefighters rushed three unconscious children, ages 4, 5, and 8 years old, out of their burning apartment on Livonia Avenue. Their father, 37-year-old Anthony Halliburton, was arrested in the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Halliburton left his son, daughter and stepdaughter by themselves inside the locked apartment to go get groceries. He has been charged with three counts of abandonment of a child and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Neighbors say that the mother was at work when the fire took place. All three children are still hospitalized with bad injuries but are expected to survive.

The family’s next-door neighbor says that they’ve lived in the apartment for about a year and that they mostly kept to themselves since they moved in.

Halliburton is now out on supervised release as he awaits his next court date, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
