Father Popieluzko monument vandalism triggers Greenpoint rally against Polish hate

Members of the Polish community rallied in Greenpoint Saturday to highlight the importance behind the Father Popieluzko monument, which has been vandalized in the recent weeks.

Members of the Polish community rallied in Greenpoint Saturday to highlight the importance behind the Father Popieluzko monument, which has been vandalized in the recent weeks.
Polish Americans, and New Yorkers from near and far came to McCarren Park to honor Polish history, specifically the monument that stands there. They said they will not tolerate the recent vandalism in the area.
They said they held the rally to educate New Yorkers about the tremendous efforts Polish leaders have had and continue to have in New York.
They emphasized that their goal is to overcome evil with good and discussed what the monument symbolizes. They said the Father Popieluzko monument is universal and it symbolizes freedom, diversity and tolerance.
The Guardian Angels have continued patrol and kept a lookout at McCarren Park, although the community is also calling for cameras to be installed in the park.
