Firefighters responded to a massive fire at a six-story apartment building early Sunday evening in Soundview.

The fire on the sixth floor of the building happened around 7:15 p.m. on Noble Avenue. According to the FDNY, the fire took nearly seven hours to get under control. The building has 74 units, and it took nearly 250 firefighters from 50 stations to put out those flames. Everyone was evacuated safely.

Seven people were injured including one firefighter.

The Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter at the Bronx River Parkway Houses Community Center for the over 100 people affected.

Fire officials determined that the fire first broke out in the cockloft of the six-story building and they are still working to determine the cause of the flames at this hour.
