Investigators have determined that the fatal building explosion in Borough Park in October was the result of arson.
The woman accused of setting the fire died in the blast.
Officials had initially eyed a gas leak as the cause, but now say Francesca Figueroa poured gasoline down the stairs and then lit them on fire. They say they found gasoline in her apartment.
The resulting explosion killed 64-year-old Ligia Puello and injured 12 people.
Investigators say Figueroa had recently been evicted from her second-floor apartment in the building near 43rd Street at 13th Avenue.
Workers have since demolished the remnants of the building.
