FDNY responds to church fire in Carroll Gardens

Officials say the outside of the St .Mary Star of the Sea Church on 467 Court St. caught fire just after 7:40 p.m.

Fire fighters were called to a Saturday night fire outside of a church in Carroll Gardens.
Officials say the outside of the St .Mary Star of the Sea Church on 467 Court St. caught fire just after 7:40 p.m.
According to the FDNY, the fire was put out within the hour.
Officials from the church praised the prompt response of firefighters who were able to contain the damage to the outside of the structure.
The building was already surrounded by scaffolding as part of ongoing repairs to the building's façade.
The church says services will resume with no disruptions Sunday morning.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
