If you were walking on 24th Street in Greenwood, like Joseph Figueroa, you may have smelled something strong.

"Diesel, a really strong smell of diesel," said Figueroa.

The FDNY says a truck crash caused the fuel to spill. People in the area, like Marisol Thomas, say they came out of their office when they heard the crash.

"I was working and I heard a very loud noise and the whole concrete moved on the construction site," said Thomas.

Figueroa tells News 12 the construction has taken up a portion of the road.

“I mean, it's always been a problem because this barrier here takes up half of the block and a lot of the trucks have to come down this way. So it's always a tight spot. It's like I said, it's always been an issue. So to see this, like, I kind of knew it was going to happen," said Figueroa.

The FDNY says nobody was injured and says the site was washed down, but it's unclear what laid up to the crash.

"It was a lot of fuel," said Figueroa.

It's unclear how much fuel was spilled. News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Environmental Conservation, but has not yet heard back.
