Seven firefighters were injured fighting a serious blaze Sunday morning in Crown Heights.
Emergency workers say two residents were also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The blaze gutted a four-story building and forced residents to evacuate. Officials say it took nearly 100 firemen more than one hour to put out the fire.
The fire chief says the frigid weather proved to be a challenge to firefighters. The Red Cross used a city bus to set up a temporary emergency shelter for the displaced residents. Red Cross workers say most of the tenants will be housed in area hotels.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
