Starting Wednesday New York City restaurants will no longer be allowed to use foam food containers.
The city is banning these containers because they are not biodegradable and could hurt the environment.
Lawmakers say there will be a six-month grace period before businesses found in violation can be fined.
If a restaurant makes less than $500,000 a year, the restaurant can also apply for an exemption as foam containers are often cheaper than alternatives.
