Free tax help is being made available to low-income residents in the borough.
A joint effort by Bronx not-for-profit Ariva, the West Bronx Housing Association and Signature Bank has offered free tax preparation to low-income residents for four years. Through the program, certified tax representatives volunteer their services to help save participants thousands of dollars in processing fees. Participants say the program saves them both pain and trouble.
"I would have a headache," says Levora Earle, one of the residents applying for a tax refund. "It would be kind of hard for me."
Senior citizens, disabled and special-needs residents and people with a yearly income under $45,000 are eligible for the free tax help. Organizers say the service will be offered through April 15.
