Artist Frida Kahlo's paintings, personal artifacts and clothing will soon be on display at the Brooklyn Museum.

Kahlo turned to art after a horrific traffic accident left her bedridden for weeks.  She painted in bed with a specially made easel, creating her now famous self-portraits known for their bold exploration of identity.

The exhibition room was painted blue to mimic the Mexico City home where Kahlo was born, lived and later died. The home's nickname was the Blue House.

Kahlo’s personal items were locked up in two small rooms at the Blue House until 2004.  They are now on display for the first time in the United States.

The gallery opens to the public on Feb. 8 and runs until May 12.
